2024 MAZDA CX-90 PHEV

The Mazda brand has begun electrifying some of our favorite models, and now the 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid, has already started to make its mark on dealerships. We recently compared it to another large green SUV, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, and we think that the Mazda SUV came out on top. Here’s a look at what we noticed about both models at Paretti Mazda.

Green Powertrains

These green SUVs both have electrified powertrains, but there are some key differences between them. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid, which plugs into a wall outlet or Level 2 charger to top off its battery. This also means it can drive on all-electric power for up to 26 miles in ideal conditions, per EPA estimates.

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid does not offer an all-electric driving mode. It is also less powerful, with its standard powertrain providing only 245 horsepower. The Mazda CX-90 PHEV has a much more impressive output at 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.

All-Wheel Drive Capabilities

Both models offer all-wheel drive, but it’s only standard on one. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV comes equipped with i-ACTIV® AWD at no extra cost. The Mazda SUV also offers the Mi-Drive™ system and multiple driving modes.

Three Rows of Seating

The 2024 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a three-row SUV with room for up to eight people. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV matches it with room for the same number of passengers. However, the Mazda SUV does this while providing everyone with more leg and shoulder room.
